Elderberry & Holly
All about your class teachers.
Facts about your teachers.
Miss Richardson (Elderberry Class Teacher):
My favourite subject is Literacy, I love reading storybooks with children and seeing children enjoy different stories and characters. My favourite author is Eric Carle, I love the illustrations in his books and The Very Hungry Caterpillar reminds me of myself at times! As well as reading, I am a huge Leeds United fan and I like going to watch home games at Elland Road.
Miss Lewis (Holly Class Teacher):
My favourite subject is P.E as I love being active and staying fit. I also love reading about the past and understanding how our world came to be as it is. My favourite author as a child was Roald Dahl because I found his stories very witty and sometimes gruesome! I love animals especially dogs and cats!
In Reception we will provide an environment that encourages first hand experiences. Our open plan classroom creates a learning environment where children can learn through play.
This term our focus is ‘All about me’. We will be learning our new class routines, rules and expectations. Our work will focus on the themes of ourselves, our family and our friends. It is a great opening topic for the year as the children have a sense of ownership and knowledge of these areas and so feel confident to access the learning.
Every morning we will be practising writing our names and forming the letters correctly. We will also send a paper copy home for the children to practise and share their progress with their families.
In maths our focus will be laying out the foundations for the children to develop their calculation skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. This then means they have the skills they need to access their maths learning when they move into year one and start on the National Curriculum. This term we will be focusing on the numbers 1-10 and completing tasks and activities around these numbers.
Our P.E days are:
Thursday – Holly class
Friday – Elderberry class
Please make sure your child brings in their p.e. kit at the start of the term and we will make sure they are returned before the holidays.
We use Tapestry to keep our parents up to date on their child’s progress and we encourage all parents to add any achievements and activities they may do at home.
