Letting us know when your child is ill

18th March 2020

Dear Parents/Carers

We appreciate that at this time of year many children suffer for coughs and colds and you may feel it necessary to keep your child at home.

We must stress however, how important it is that you let us know when your child is ill, especially at the moment as we monitor cases of Coronavirus (Covid 19).

When we do the morning and afternoon register to confirm children's attendance each day, there are many important reasons why we may need to know whether you child is in school.

Did you know?

This is simply our safeguarding procedure, it's part of the Government policy - 'Keeping Children Safe in Education'. Again, it's so that we are made aware if the situation changes, or maybe you have more than one child and you're struggling to get the sibling to school,. We are here to help and support you, but we cant do that if we don't know!

It is our duty of care as a school to make sure that your child is safe when they are in school. if we had a fire we would want to make sure that we know who is here and who is not.

If you dont tell us that your child is ill, they will be marked on the register as 'unauthorised absence' - but if you tell us that your child is ill they will be marked n the register as ill.

What's the difference?

The number of 'unauthorised absences' a child has (for example: no reason given for a child's absence) is automatically reported to the local authority electronically. If they don't attend school, you could be fined.

Remember it is your responsibility as a parent and it is the law that your child attends school every day.

Why do I have to call every day?

Situations change, and again it is our duty of care as a school, to make sure that we know about your child's health and welfare.

Please help us to help you!
